Work will begin at Hughson Street and progress west toward New Street. Crews will start on one side of the road
and them move to the other. Once crews complete work in each area, lanes will reopen. Two lanes of traffic will be
maintained at all times. Work will take place during daytime hours. Work between Hughson Street and Hess
Street is anticipated to be completed before December 2027 to limit impacts to holiday activities.
What Is Happening?
During the detailed design phase of the Hamilton Light Rail Transit (LRT), utility locations must be
confirmed along the entire corridor. These investigations will help identify and address potential
utility conflicts or unforeseen utility encounters before major construction begins.
The work will be completed during daytime hours. Rolling lane closures and minor travel delays are
expected as crews move between work locations. Emergency access will be maintained throughout
the work in coordination with Hamilton Paramedic Service and Hamilton Fire Department.
No direct impacts on nearby businesses, institutions or schools are anticipated.
